Had to take a break from Spain for a minute to show a video of Sgt. Adam Sniffen of the 101st Airborne Division parachuting into the University of Michigan stadium to deliver the game ball. This was at the October 9, 2010 University of Michigan vs Michigan State game. This is a huge rivalry in the state! He came in a trail of maize (yellow) smoke…with the American flag and a parachute that looked like it was Maize and Blue…the colors of the University of Michigan!
And…I WAS THERE…along with a few other people…like 113, 065…WOW!
Check out this video on YouTube. It shows Sgt. Sniffen through the whole jump. From the minute he exits the plane you can see the stadium. When he gets closer, you can see the maize section…the students. We sit on the same end zone in the opposite corner from the students…Section 39 row 21…!
Also check this one out. It has clear sound and it was taken from the student section, so you can feel what it was like! They chant “USA” as the parachuter comes in…then the UM band marches and plays, “Hail to the Victors”…our fight song! LOVE IT!
He landed on the other end of the field from us, but I managed to take the photo at the beginning of the article.
Last Saturday we had a thrilling overtime game and beat The University of Illinois! I don’t like our coach…too inflexible…doesn’t use players talents…leaves them in when they repeatedly make the same mistake…doesn’t improve our lousy defense…doesn’t teach and drill the basics…got caught practicing beyond league rules…doesn’t inspire the team or the fans…I could go on and on. What is sad is that he will probably stay because he will win enough games this year. I was SO hoping he would be gone…and I really want Harbaugh…a previous Quarterback for Michigan that is now a coach…!!!
As I write this they are playing Purdue. A team they should beat with one hand tied behind their back…and they are struggling…with stupid mistakes…a strategic missed extra point…turnovers…poor defense…ARGH!!!
(The next post will be back to Valdelavilla…!)
